Zhiyan 'Frank' Zhou

I graduated from Georgia Tech with a Computer Science major in May 2022. I am currently working for Google, building platform infrastucture that supports authorization and authentication tasks for Google Workpace. Apart from my work, my main focus is on Machine Learning, Big Data, and Front-end Development. For the past few years, I have been learning and researching how to present data, information, and intelligent models to users in a scalable, interactive, and interpretable way. I have experience working in multiple companies, including both startups and big tech companies. Apart from my industry experiences, I am also interested in research. I am working as a research assistant under Dr. Duen Horng (Polo) Chau. I have multiple research papers published in top-tier conferences.

Experience

Software Development Engineer

Google

(Java, protobuf , gRPC) Led the migration of Google Workspace Enterprise Authorization System to Google Cloud IAM. Streamlined the authorization stack (~60k QPS) and improving efficiency for Google Workspace.

(Java, protobuf , gRPC) Develop and maintain Enterprise Single Sign-on Service based on SAML and OIDC protocols, a service used by over 95% of Google Workspace large customers.

(Java, protobuf , gRPC) Develop and maintain a customer facing service that allow Google Workspace customers to connect their LDAP-based applications and services to Cloud Identity or Google Workspace.

Software Development Engineer Intern

Amazon

(Java) Led the development of a highly reliable (No false positives until the end of the internship) image-based regression testing framework that can detect and report deviation between a screenshot of a website and an approved reference image using Selenium, FreeMarker, and AWS S3. Integrated this framework with Amazon Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery tools.

Research Assistant

Georgia Institute of Technology School of Computational Science and Engineering (Polo Club of Data Science)

Lead the development of Argo-Lite, a web-based graph visualizing software based on React.js, MobX, D3.js, and WebGL. Argo Lite is currently being used by over a thousand students each semester who are taking Data and Visual Analytics (CSE6242, CX4242) at Georgia Institute of Technology.

Worked on CardiacAR, a research project in conjoint with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta that aims for creating an AR software that can help heart surgeons during surgical planning.

Worked on Object Sensing and Cognition for Adversarial Robustness (OSCAR), a research project in conjoint with Intel Lab that aims for creating deception-resistant ML technologies with an emphasis on object detectors for DARPA’s Guaranteeing AI Robustness against Deception (GARD) program.

Worked on developing NVIDIA Deep Learning Insitute Teaching Kit for RAPIDS AI.

Fall 2019 - Present

Software Engineering Intern

XForcePlus

Developed a tax fraud detection algorithm based on statistical methods and machine learning algorithms. Ran the algorithm in a testing environment and showed that it performs 50% better than traditional fraud detection approaches.

Performed a time series analysis on the business volume of the company's Business Intelligence (BI) platform, whose Mean Square Error is less than 10% of the average true value.

Developed a web scraping algorithm that enables the company to scrape data about their clients. Successfully scraped data about more than 70000 companies.
